Beatles
Audio rendition of "Auld Lang Syne"
|
Some feedback indicated a lot of Daily Quip subscribers didn't recognize this, which surprised me. The Beatles issued a number of recordings that were distributed for promotional opportunities and to fan clubs. This is, of course, "Auld Lang Syne" the traditional New Year anthem penned by Scottish poet Robert Burns (and to which few know lyrics beyond the first verse).

Elizabeth Taylor
Some of my best leading men have been dogs and horses.
|
Probably some pigs, too, but that's just my personal guess. Taylor is serious in her quote as she was the star of "National Velvet" as well as at least one Lassie film. Born in England in 1932, Elizabeth Taylor is considered by some to be the last of the truly great Hollywood legends. Known for her beauty (oh, those violet eyes!), exemplary acting, and her numerous spouses, especially her relationship with Richard Burton. Mr. Showbiz has a bio with plenty of other links.

Willy Wonka
A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.
|
Gene Wilder plays the role of Willy Wonka in the film, which is based on the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Wilder performed impressively and the film was such a hit that Nestlé actually has a line of Wonka candy and an interactive website where you can visit Loompaland, and buy the products, of course.

All I can say is if they show my butt in a movie, it better be a wide shot.

There are two major products that came out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
